Afghanistan Implementation Workshop, Sydney 12-14 January 2015
The UFA Secretariat hosted three senior officials from Da Afghanistan Bank on 12-14 January as part of its ongoing support of Afghanistan’s implementation of its FATF International Cooperation Review Group’s (ICRG) Action Plan.
The workshop included strategic discussions on implementing targeted financial sanctions, the supervision of financial institutions and remitters, the operation of the FIU and investigating and prosecuting money laundering and terrorist financing.
The delegation also met with representatives from the New Zealand Ministry of Justice, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian FIU, AUSTRAC to discuss implementation and processes.
The UFA Secretariat commended Afghanistan on the progress it has made in working towards addressing the requirements set out in its ICRG Action Plan. The UFA thanked the government of Canada for their funding contributions to support this important workshop.
