Bilateral Consultations between Indonesia and Cambodia on Targeted Financial Sanctions
From 2 – 4 September Cambodia hosted bilateral consultations between Indonesia and Cambodia on targeted financial sanctions to combat terrorism. Both UFA members are under FATF ICRG review and have the implementation of targeted financial sanctions against terrorism included in their action plans.
The delegation from Indonesia comprised senior officials from the Judiciary, Police, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesia’s FIU (PPATK). The Indonesian delegation met with representatives from Cambodia’s FIU (CAFIU), National Bank of Cambodia, Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court and the Ministry of Interior (Cambodian Police) in both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
The bilateral consultations produced successful outcomes for both Indonesia and Cambodia, with PPATK and CAFIU commencing discussion on preparing a bilateral memorandum of understanding.
In addition to the program, an UFA discussion panel was held on Wednesday 3 September in Siem Reap on practical steps and strategies to implement targeted financial sanctions against terrorism. The discussion panel was attended by representatives from Afghanistan, Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Lao PDR, Macao China, Myanmar, Philippines, United States and the UFA Secretariat.
