About UFA

Co-Chairs

The UFA has a permanent and a rotating Co-Chair. The permanent chair is held by Australia, as host and supporting member jurisdiction of the Secretariat, and the rotating chair is appointed for a two-year term by the membership. The current Co-Chairs are Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney (Australia) and Mr. Marzunisham Omar (Malaysia).

Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney (Australia) - appointed 2019

Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney has been a member of the Australian Federal Police for 29 years. Prior to joining the AFP, Ian worked as an accountant, obtaining the status of Certified Practicing Accountant. Ian has diverse experience with the AFP in national and international economic and organised crime investigations, and has participated in a number of taskforces involving Federal and State law enforcement agencies. Roles have included Coordinator of the AFP narcotic strike teams in Melbourne, Manager of the AFP Adelaide Office, and AFP Senior Liaison Officer in China.

Ian was awarded with the Australian Police Medal as part of the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours in recognition of his distinguished service, particularly in the areas of law enforcement liaison in Asia, and for his role in national investigations.

Mr. Marzunisham Omar (Malaysia) - appointed 2020

Mr. Marzunisham Omar (Malaysia) - appointed 2020

Marzunisham Omar is Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia overseeing the full breadth of the Bank’s corporate management, which includes currency and finance, digital and technology, human capital and corporate services, as well as overseeing the Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department. Marzunisham is a member of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Management Committee, Monetary Policy Committee, Financial Stability Committee, Reserve Management Committee and Risk Management Committee. He is also the chair of the National Coordination Committee to Counter Money Laundering.

Marzunisham joined Bank Negara Malaysia in 1993 and holds a MA in Economics from Cambridge University. He has 27 years of experience across various functions of Central Banking, ranging from economic and monetary policy, financial sector regulation and development, financial inclusion and organisational development. From 2015 until 2017, Marzunisham served as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
